This 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO Berlinetta will be sold at auction Thursday by Bonhams, and experts believe it's likely to fetch well over $35 million and could even top $50 million. That would eclipse the current record —a Mercedes-Benz W196R racer that sold last year for $31.6 million. The GTO was the 19th made by Ferrari and was delivered in 1962 to French racing driver Jo Schlesser. But what sets it apart is that it crashed during a race that year, killing the driver, Henri Oreiller. Many GTOs have crashed, been repaired and sold for sky-high prices. But the Schlesser GTO is believed to be the only one involved in a fatal crash, which could affect the price.
