RadioShack Goes Back to the Future in Super Bowl Ad

RadioShack took 30 pricey seconds Sunday to shake off some spiderwebs.

For a company that has struggled to stay relevant during the technology takeover of this decade and the previous two, the 'Shack did it by, ironically, calling on some '80s icons.

Gold medal-winning gymnast Mary Lou Retton, bedecked in in her red-white-and-blue leotard, muscled up for us again, hauling from the store a stack of vintage machinery.

The California Raisins danced and "Chucky" also cut a rug - literally - wielding with his famous big knife. Ponch (Erik Estrada) from "CHiPs" sauntered through the front door next to Cliff (John Ratzenberger) from "Cheers." Devo and Twisted Sister also helped clear the shelves of ancient refuse.

"It's time for a new RadioShack," the announcer told us, beckoning us to "come see what's possible when we do things together."

The nostalgic spot offered offered an odd nexus -- an electronics chain looking to thrive again and a gaggle of yesteryear stars perhaps looking to shine again, if only for a moment.
