Watson has a job on Wall Street.
The IBM computer that defeated a slew of smart people on the game show "Jeopardy!," thus proving that a computer can answer questions posed in everyday language in a way that humans can, has been hired by Citigroup to help improve banking, Citigroup announced Monday.
"Citi will evaluate ways that IBM Watson technologies can help analyze customer needs and process vast amounts of up-to-the-minute financial, economic, product and client data," Citigroup said in a statement.
In the year since Watson beat its human rivals on the popular game show, IBM has been seeking out practical applications for Watson's abilities in banking, retail and health care, among others. The company recently formed an advisory board to explore ways that Watson can be used to improve health care. Last year, IBM announced that Watson would be working with Wellpoint Inc. to improve patient care.
Now, maybe Watson can figure out how the get Washington to work better.
