A woman in Volusia County, Florida, was killed by a falling tree as she went outside to feed her animals, the county emergency management department said Friday.
The woman was only identified as being in her 60s. It wasn’t clear what the conditions were like when the tree fell, but an official with the agency said it may have occurred when part of the eye of the hurricane was offshore.
Multiple trees fell in the county as Hurricane Matthew moved up the Florida coast Friday, the emergency management department said on Twitter.
Overnight, a woman in her 50s in St. Lucie County died after suffering a cardiac arrest after emergency personnel temporarily stopped responding to emergency calls due to dangerous winds, the St. Lucie County Fire District said.
