'Voice' coaches band together against Blake Shelton: 'He's a little lazy this season'

TODAY anchor Matt Lauer recently toured the set of "The Voice," and what he found — other than Carson Daly's secret "hosty" nook and Blake Shelton's not-so-secret bar — was a group of coaches ready to turn on one of their own.

Sort of.

What he really found was the competitive spirit that's always amped up between Adam Levine, Christina Aguilera, CeeLo Green and three-time winner Shelton.

"He's a little boastful this season," Aguilera said of the Shelton. "And he's a little lazy this season."

Lazy and "complacent," according to Green and Levine.

Shelton, who sat apart from the others at the table, simply smiled in the face of the criticism.

"Clearly my track record doesn't speak for itself, Matt," he joked. "I mean, there's almost a separation between losers and the winner's side of the table."

That sort of back-and-forth between the coaches is commonplace on "The Voice," where the A-list talent on the panel is admittedly the main attraction.

"Because our profiles are higher, obviously, than people competing on the show, naturally we're going to overshadow it a little bit," Levine explained.

And while he noted that no contestant has "become a massive superstar yet," the Maroon 5 frontman doesn't see that as a problem.

"People are always better off after they've had their experience on the show," he assured. "So as far as I'm concerned, it's a victory for anybody who gets to have this type of exposure."

See which artists (and their coaches, of course) seem to be on the path to victory this season when "The Voice" airs Mondays at 8 p.m. and Tuesdays at 9 p.m. on NBC.
