A California company has recalled more than 92,000 pounds of chicken Caesar salad kits because they may be contaminated with Listeria, the federal government said Friday. They were all shipped to Sam’s Clubs warehouse stores, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said. The 11oz. clear plastic containers and 6.5-lb. boxes are labeled, "APPA Fine Foods/Sam's Club Daily Chef CHICKEN CAESAR SALAD KIT". No one’s been reported sick — testing in Michigan detected the bacteria in some of the chicken used in the salad kits.
“Listeriosis can cause fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions sometimes preceded by diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms,” the USDA says. “An invasive infection spreads beyond the gastrointestinal tract. In pregnant women, the infection can cause miscarriages, stillbirths, premature delivery or life-threatening infection of the newborn.”
