A car bomb hit a passing Iraqi army patrol in southeast Baghdad on Saturday, wounding four soldiers and two civilians, police said.

They said the attack took place in the city’s New Baghdad district. No further information was immediately available.

Iraq has been gripped by a spasm of renewed violence following a lull around the Dec. 15 elections.

In the fourth deadliest day since the war began, 136 Iraqis were killed and more than 200 wounded in two suicide bomb attacks in the southern Shiite holy city of Kerbala and in the Sunni stronghold of Ramadi on Thursday. Eleven U.S. soldiers were also killed in attacks on Thursday.

The Associated Press and Reuters contributed to this report.
