A 15-year-old Bahraini prince was killed in an accident while driving a car, a government official said Thursday.

The news of Prince Faisal’s death was not immediately announced, but state radio and television stopped their regular programs and played readings from the Islamic holy book, the Quran — a sign of mourning.

An official in the Ministry of Youth, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the press, said the prince lost control of the car he was driving and collided with a traffic light and billboard.

The prince was the sixth son of the king, Sheik Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.
