A woman abducted from a Jersey Shore home where her two sons were found stabbed to death managed to escape from her captor and run to a gas station for help, authorities said Friday.

The woman’s ex-husband had called police Thursday evening, saying he had found his sons, ages 7 and 14, dead in the home.

The children’s mother, meanwhile, had been abducted, allegedly by a man described as a tenant in the home, said Bob Gasser, executive assistant prosecutor in Ocean County.

He said the woman was bound with rope, put into a van and driven up the Garden State Parkway.

When the suspect stopped at a rest stop for gas, the woman managed to break free and ran to an attendant for help while the suspect fled on foot into the woods, Gasser said.   “She was in the van and broke loose from her bonds, and was yelling and screaming for help from the van,” said Mobil station night manager John Langenbacher.

The man suspected of abducting her was caught around 4 a.m.

Gasser said the man also would be questioned as a suspect in connection with the boys’ deaths. Authorities have not released the names of anyone involved.
