A junior high principal accused of firing a gun on school grounds was placed on leave and will not return to the position, school officials said.

No charges have been filed against Crockett Junior High Principal Junior Van Grady, 57, who authorities said fired the shot in his campus office Friday.

The bullet passed through the south wall of Grady's office and into a hallway. No one was injured.

A message left by The Associated Press at Grady's home was not immediately returned Tuesday.

Van Grady was placed on administrative leave after police found two pistols in his car on campus during a search, the Odessa American reported in its Wednesday editions.

"This is a serious offense," said Ector County Independent School District Superintendent Wendell Sollis. "I've spoken with Mr. Grady, and he understands he's not coming back."

Officials said Tuesday that Grady initially attributed the gunshot sound to fireworks, but they no longer believed that account.
