General Motors was supposed to send supply contractor JR Industries a check for $1,988.
Instead, GM sent 1,988 times that amount.
After several weeks, the supplier’s owner has managed to get the automaker to take back the $3.95 million overpayment.
In December, GM hired JR Industries to design and build some testing equipment.
The company shipped the equipment in late January and billed GM $1,988 on March 2.
The mistake apparently happened when a GM employee typed the figure into both the quantity and unit price columns of a billing program.
