A worker servicing a bank ATM was bound with duct tape and locked inside the machine's building by a robber, police said.

The woman was working on the automated teller machine in a small building near a LaSalle Bank branch in suburban Detroit at 7 a.m. Thursday when a man walked up and showed a handgun, police Sgt. Rick Pomorski said.

The man shoved the woman inside the building and closed the door, then used duct tape to tie her hands and feet and cover her mouth, Pomorski said. He took money from the ATM as well as the woman's company car.

About 90 minutes later, customers discovered that the machine didn't work. One of them heard the woman's muffled speech from inside the cramped building, Pomorski said.

Police were called, and firefighters had to cut the door open to free the woman, who was not injured, he said.
