A man claiming he robbed a Los Altos Hills couple at gunpoint inside their home called a local newspaper to let the victims know they shouldn't worry about him returning.

    1. C'mon — what's not to like?

Hoof it over to Facebook to join the weird news herd.

"They can sleep," the man told the San Jose Mercury News on Wednesday night, about 24 hours after the robbery.

Police said a masked man brandishing a gun robbed the couple inside their home in the upscale suburb about 17 miles north of San Jose.

When he couldn't find a specific item he was looking for, he took $300 in cash, two wristwatches and some costume jewelry, police said.

The caller told the Mercury News he was not a killer or a robber.

"I just wanted to have fun," he said. "I just wanted to see how police work over here."

Immediately following the robbery, the man claims he hid in shrubbery about 15 steps away from a police car and watched officers hunt for him.
