FORT WORTH, Texas — The former chief executive of RadioShack Corp., who resigned in February after being caught lying on his resume, was sentenced to 30 days in jail after pleading guilty to drunken driving.
David Edmondson will serve the sentence on a Tarrant County labor detail. He was also fined $650 and had his license suspended for a year under a plea agreement reached with prosecutors.
Edmondson, 47, was arrested in suburban Southlake in January 2005, two weeks after being named CEO at the Fort Worth-based electronics retailer. He disclosed the arrest to the company’s board at its meeting the next month.
Edmondson had been arrested twice before on similar charges but was acquitted once and the second offense was reduced to obstruction of a highway.
Edmondson joined RadioShack in 1994 and was named last year to replace longtime CEO Leonard Roberts. But his tenure at the top lasted less than a year. In February, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported that his resume listed college degrees that Edmondson had not earned.
The company has not indicated the total value of a severance package it gave Edmondson, but according to a regulatory filing, it will pay him at least $1 million cash, including unpaid vacation and salary.
Claire Babrowski, who had been chief operating officer, was named interim CEO after Edmondson stepped down.
