He’s one of the most prolific passers in NFL history and virtually a god in south Florida. So, how does Dan Marino top all of that? By helping us take off a few pounds.

Dan Marino hung up his spikes six years ago. Today, instead of throwing passes, the Hall of Famer is doing plenty of pitching. Pitching products, that is. Dan Marino is the new face of Nutrisystem.

“First of all I think you’ve gotta get a goal in mind on what you want to do," said Marino. "You get a book and follow that, eat the foods – breakfast, lunch and dinner, and then snack five times a day.”

Between endorsement and broadcast deals, sources in the know say he’s guaranteed to earn at least $6 million this year. So, why is Dan Marino so relevant?

Even though the Florida Marlins and the Miami Heat have won their championships – something Marino could never achieve, the Dolphins still rule south Florida. But, thanks to missing the playoffs for four straight years without his arm, no new personality has emerged and the 44-year old is still the face around town. Maroone’s Car Dealerships, Levinson’s Jewelers and --memory foam?

“Sleep Innovations is a great growing company and it’s one that I’ve gotten excited about because my wife actually, you know, turned me on to sleeping and using pillows and memory foam,” said Marino.

To be fair, Marino has done his part to stay in the spotlight. He’s an NFL analyst for both CBS and HBO, and his best audible, as his playing career was winding down, might have been to take a part in “Ace Venture: Pet Detective” with Jim Carrey.

“I saw a script about a year before we actually started filming," said Marino. "It was about a Dolphin player and a Dolphin getting kidnapped. The funny part about it was, I wasn’t going to do it because I read the script and I’m just thinking, this can’t be done. I mean, it didn’t sound right.”

Marino did oblige and the movie became a big hit.

“I knew at the time that this thing was either going to be real funny and good and everyone’s gonna love it, or it was going to be a bomb," he said. "It turned out great. You know when I play in a golf tournament, guys come out and says, 'Hey, laces out, Dan!’ You know and they give you the whole ‘Alrighty then’. They know all the lines; it’s kind of a cult classic."
