A driver with a gun went on a shooting spree in several neighborhoods and apparently targeted victims at random, killing a man and injuring four other people, police said Saturday.

Police said they were interviewing a man they described as a “person of interest” who had been spotted in a vehicle matching the description of one being sought.

The man who died was shot in the neck, said Detective Dennis Laffin, a spokesman. The other victims were expected to survive, police said after the Friday evening shootings in the Queens borough.

Police have said they believe the shooter was driving a damaged green vehicle, possibly a Cadillac.

According to preliminary police reports, the first shooting was around 7:20 p.m. Friday. After brief intervals, a male pedestrian was shot in the leg; another man was shot in the leg; a car window was shot out; and three people were shot in the 109th police precinct, including the man hit in the neck, police said.

That man, shot at around 11 p.m., died Saturday morning after being taken in critical condition to a hospital, police said.

The two other people shot in the 109th were hit once each, in the arm and the hand, police said. It was unclear whether the three had been near each other.

Police said they believed the green car’s front end had been damaged when the driver fled the scene of one shooting.
