MSNBC.com launches Flash video player

MSNBC.com expands its video functionality to include more browser types and Mac users. With the new MSNBC.com Video Player Beta, users of Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari and other browsers can watch MSNBC.com on-demand video, delivered using Flash at www.video.msnbc.com. The new player automatically detects a user's system settings and delivers either the Windows Media or Flash file, depending on the browser. Advertising functions identically in both players.

MSNBC.com is the leader in online news video serving an average of 60 million videos per month, including on-demand and live video from NBC News and MSNBC.com. NBC News was the first network to offer full Netcasts of its programming, launching the "Nightly News Netcast," "Meet the Press Netcast" and "Today Netcast" in the last year. This week, MSNBC.com launched video podcasts of "Nightly News" and "Meet the Press" (www.podcasts.msnbc.com) and the "Nightly News" video podcast quickly rose to the number one podcast at the iTunes music store. Brian Williams was the first network news anchor to offer a video blog, "The Early Nightly" (www.dailynightly.msnbc.com). Recorded every morning by Williams and other NBC News correspondents, "The Early Nightly" offers an early glimpse into "NBC Nightly News'" broadcast day.
