A school administrator shot to death his ex-wife's boyfriend and another man, and wounded a third person before turning the gun on himself, police said.

Michigan State Police identified the shooter as Anthony Dixon, 34, of Holt. Dixon was the assistant principal at Gardner Middle School in the Lansing School District.

"No one ever would have expected this to happen," district safety director Joel Maatman told WILX-TV.

Dixon has worked for the district for about six years, Maatman said.

Police said Dixon was in search of his ex-wife and her boyfriend Saturday night, leading him to a house in Blackman Township, about 65 miles west of Detroit.

Troopers responding to a call of shots fired found the owner, James Ketchens, 40, fatally shot outside his house, police said.

Dixon's ex-wife, another woman and several children, fled the house unharmed, police said.

A state police SWAT team entered the house when efforts to contact Dixon failed. Inside, they found the bodies of Dixon and his ex-wife's boyfriend, George Turner III, 33, of Jackson.

A man, whose name was not released, also was critically injured, police said.
