Police arrested a teenager suspected of killing five people in the same drug-infested neighborhood since November, including a woman and her adult son and a man who was robbed of $3.

Joshua J. Anderson was initially arrested on a rape allegation, but detectives added five complaints of first-degree murder Monday.

All the victims were found within blocks of each other. Four of them — a third of the city’s homicide victims this year — were killed in the past two weeks.

Anderson, 19, was jailed Tuesday without bond and did not have a lawyer of record. Prosecutors expected to charge him in the killings by the end of the week, police spokesman Jason Willingham said.

Anderson is accused of killing Christopher Moderow with a .22 caliber pistol Jan. 23; $3 was taken off the body, police said. The next day, police believe, he shot and killed David Gilbert after arguing with him at a store.

Detectives also accuse Anderson of killing Rose Mary Hobbs and her adult son, Herbert, who were found Friday in their burning home. Investigators believe the fire was deliberately set. Anderson also is accused of killing Evaristo Tovias on Nov. 5.
