Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama is apologizing again for saying the lives of U.S. troops killed in the Iraq war were "wasted."

During a campaign trip to Iowa over the weekend, the Illinois senator told a crowd: "We now have spent 400 (b) billion dollars and have seen over three-thousand lives of the bravest young Americans wasted."

He immediately apologized, saying the remark was "a slip of the tongue."

During an appearance Monday in New Hampshire, Obama apologized again, telling reporters he'd meant to criticize the civilian leadership of the war, not those serving in the military.

Obama said it was not his intent to diminish "the enormous courage and sacrifice" of American troops.
