Four people were killed and six injured after an apparent arson fire trapped them inside a crowded mobile home early Sunday, authorities said.

Collier County sheriff’s detectives and the State Fire Marshal’s office didn’t give details about why they suspected arson as the cause.

Deputies responding to the 2:30 a.m. blaze said six people managed to get out, but they could not reach those still inside.

“They tried to do what they could, but it was too much,” sheriff’s spokeswoman Kristin Adams said.

The three most seriously injured were taken to a local trauma center. Doctors were considering sending at least one person to a burn center in Tampa, about 150 miles north of the rural town in southwest Florida, Adams said.

Investigators were still trying to identify the dead and injured Sunday afternoon.
