The recent pet food recall that took 60 million cans of food off store shelves is affecting pet owners everywhere. The recall includes both dog and cat food made by Canadian company, Menu Foods and sold under dozens of brand names including Wegmans, Science Diet and Iams. One local pet owner says the whole thing has her on edge.

Virginia Gifford feeds her cat, Baby, Wegmans brand cat food, and when she heard about the recall, she immediately took notice. She says finding out if the exact food she had was on the list was a little tough for her because she's legally blind. Virginia says she’s keeping a close eye on Baby. “She got over it. She was good and I didn't know anything about that then because she's always pretty good. She’s a normal kitty.”

Veterinarians we spoke with say don’t panic, but keep a close eye on your pet. And if there are any signs of sickness you should contact your vet.

Richard Gerbasi from Lollypop Farm says, “The concern is it effects the kidneys but there’s been kidney failure and there have been a few deaths because of the food.”

Over at the 24-hour veterinary hospital in Brighton, they say they were busier than usual on Sunday, and have gotten a lot of calls from concerned pet owners as well. Doctors there say they have one pet there that they are keeping a close eye on, but right now they're not sure if it's sick because of recalled food.
