A professor has been fired from his job at a Catholic college in Boston after leading his class in a discussion about the shootings at Virginia Tech two days afterward.

Financial accounting professor Nicholas Winset pretended to shoot some students during the discussion at Emmanuel College. One student then pretended to shoot Winset to show that the gunman could have been stopped if someone else had been armed.

Winset says the school asked faculty to engage students on the issue, but on Friday he received a letter saying he was fired and ordering him to stay off campus.

Winset says the school is stifling free speech by dismissing him.

The school says it doesn't condone the use of "discriminatory or obscene language."

One student tells the Boston Globe that most of her classmates didn't seem to find Winset's demonstration offensive.
