Susan F. Filan, Esq. is MSNBC’s senior legal analyst.  Filan, a former prosecutor and trial lawyer, began providing commentary on MSNBC in 2005 on several high-profile cases including Michael Jackson, Scott Peterson, Kobe Bryant, and Robert Blake.  In addition to appearing as an analyst on MSNBC’s daytime and primetime programs, Filan also has served as a guest host for “The Abrams Report.”

Prior to joining MSNBC, Filan worked as a prosecutor and trial lawyer on a broad range of criminal cases for the Division of Criminal Justice, State of Connecticut.  She worked for the Office of the Chief State’s Attorney as an assistant state’s attorney, and for the Office of the State’s Attorney, for the Judicial District of Fairfield.  Before she was a prosecutor, she was a criminal defense attorney for law firms in New Haven and Bridgeport, CT.  She has litigated criminal and civil matters in the federal and state trial and appellate courts. 

Filan graduated from Quinnipiac University School of Law.  Her undergraduate and graduate degrees are in Anthropology from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.  She is a graduate of the National Institute of Trial Advocacy Ten Day Regional Program, the National Advocacy Center Trial Advocacy Program and the Top Gun Training Program.  Filan is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States, the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut and the Courts of the State of Connecticut. 

She was the past president of the Board of Quinnipiac University School of Law Alumni Association and an Alternate on the Local Grievance Panel for the Judicial District of New Haven.
