A new survey of American adults’ book-reading habits finds that the Bible and other religious works are by far the most popular genre.

The Associated Press-Ipsos poll found that the Bible and religious works were read by two-thirds of those surveyed, more than all other categories.

Popular fiction, histories, biographies and mysteries were all cited by about half, while one in five read romance novels. One-fourth of those polled said they had read no books in the past year .

The poll found those likeliest to read religious books were older and married women, lower earners, minorities, less educated people, Southerners, rural residents, Republicans and conservatives.
