Police are trying to catch an adult seen on a surveillance videotape using a toddler to steal a purse from a boardwalk arcade worker.

Authorities released the videotape and say they have several leads in a case that some are comparing to Charles Dickens' "Oliver Twist."

The theft happened just after midnight Sunday at Lucky Leo's in Seaside Heights, where a surveillance camera was rolling.

The video shows an adult with shoulder-length brown hair with a girl and a red-haired boy. The adult uses a foot to push the girl under a short swinging door and the child steals a worker's purse.

It was not apparent from the video whether the adult was a man or a woman.

Arcade workers replayed the video after the worker discovered her purse was gone.

The adult faces potential charges of endangering the welfare of a child, and employing a minor in a criminal act, police Capt. Dave Szalkowski said.
