Msnbc.com adds new entertainment columnist

Millions of consumers turn to msnbc.com for the latest celebrity gossip and entertainment news.  Today, msnbc.com has announced the industry insider who will dish out the latest Scoop!

Msnbc.com welcomes Courtney Hazlett as the new writer for Scoop!, the popular celebrity and pop culture column.  Hazlett, who is based in New York, was most recently a senior reporter at OK! Magazine.  She’ll continue in her role as a frequent on-air commentator on media and entertainment issues for a variety of shows, including “Morning Joe” on MSNBC and “Today.”

Hazlett has covered stories on some of the biggest names in entertainment.  During her work as a reporter for TheSmokingGun.com, she reported on the Michael Jackson trial and also uncovered the details of Liza Minnelli and David Guest's marriage and divorce.  As a correspondent for PEOPLE magazine, she wrote and reported on a range of topics, including the world of the Olsen twins during their college careers at New York University and the death of Pope John Paul II. At OK!, she wrote stories about a spate of celebrities – from Britney to Anna Nicole Smith – and delved into the world of celebrity assistants and the "real" workings of reality television.

“Courtney brings all the right skills to the Scoop – a strong reporting background, a love for celebrity news and a commitment to ethics and fair play – a tradition started by Jeannette Walls,” said Denise Hazlick, msnbc.com entertainment editor.  “I couldn’t be more thrilled to have Courtney on our team.”

"Msnbc.com is one of those rare sites where the journalistic standard for reporting popular culture is no different than the standard for hard news,” said Hazlett.  “The bar is set really high, and I'm honored to be a part of the team.”
