A boat carrying about 100 people sank in the Bay of Bengal off a southern Bangladeshi island bordering Myanmar waters, a police official said Sunday.

Local police chief Banaj Kumar Majumdar said a body was found Sunday morning but it was not clear yet what happened to others.

The wooden boat sank early Sunday near the Saint Martins island, about 75 miles south of the coastal resort town of Cox's Bazar, said local police chief Banaj Kumar Majumdar.

Cox's Bazar is 185 miles south of the capital, Dhaka.

Details were sketchy, and the official said a team of police and border guards were sent to the scene for details.
