Waynesfield Man Killed in Auglaize County Crash

A Waynesfield man was killed early Sunday morning in a single car crash near the Auglaize-Logan county line. The crash happened around 2:30 a.m. on U.S. 33 near Goshen Road.

A Waynesfield man was killed early Sunday morning in a single car crash near the Auglaize-Logan county line. The crash happened around 2:30 a.m. on U.S. 33 near Goshen Road. According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, William Monroe, 52, was traveling west on U.S. 33, when the Saturn he was driving drifted slightly off the left side of the road. Monroe swerved back to the right and went off the road again, striking a tree and utilty pole.

Monroe, who was wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene by an investigator from the Auglaize County Coroner's Office. He was the only occupant of the vehicle.

The State Patrol said tests are being conducted to see if alcohol was involved. The crash remains under investigation.
