Authorities arrested the driver of a van that struck a school bus in rural Minnesota, killing four students, the Lyon County sheriff's office said Thursday.

The sheriff's office says 23-year-old Alianiss N. Morales of Minnesota has been taken to the Lyon County jail on suspicion of criminal vehicular operation.

Authorities say the Lyon County Attorney is considering formal charges.

Two brothers, the daughter of a teacher and the son of a former teacher were killed in the crash on Tuesday. State Patrol troopers identified the victims as 13-year-old Jesse Javens, and 9-year-old Hunter Javens, both of Cottonwood; 12-year-old Reed Stevens, of Marshall; and 9-year-old Emilee Olson of Cottonwood.

At least 14 other people were hurt, and many remained hospitalized Thursday.

The students were in a Lakeview School bus that was hit by a van on Minnesota Highway 23 north of Cottonwood, State Patrol Lt. Mark Peterson said. The bus then collided with a pickup and tipped on its side.

The National Transportation Safety Board is joining the Minnesota State Patrol in the investigation.

The sheriff's office says no court date has been set.
