The deal
Northern Europe is one of the most popular cruise destinations but also among the priciest on the European cruise market. But if you plan ahead for a spring voyage, you can reap substantial early-bird savings. We found a threesome of deals departing in May, with discounts amounting to 50 percent and prices dropping to just $429.

12-night Baltic capitals voyage
For a voyage around the Baltic countries, we suggest the CruisesOnly special we found. The 12-night spring cruise aboard Norwegian Jewel sells for just $1,499, at a discount of 42 percent! It sets sail for this Baltic extravaganza in May 2008, roundtrip from England’s Dover. En route, the ship visits six countries of Northern Europe: Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Russia, and Germany. Oceanview cabins on this May 17 sailing are also reduced in price, to just $1,749. Balconied units sell for $1,999.

Northern Europe 3-night sampler
Another spring sailing is selling at a serious discount. Orbitz offers 50 percent off the listed price of $860 for a three-night Northern Europe sampler aboard the sophisticated MSC Cruises’ Lirica. This sea journey, now priced at just $429 in an interior cabin, kicks off on May 7 from Holland’s Amsterdam toward Denmark’s Copenhagen. Along the way, the ship calls at Hamburg in Germany and spends an entire day at sea. Oceanview cabins are also affordable, now reduced to only $579; suites sell for $979.

Weeklong Norwegian fjords cruise
Another MSC Cruises deal comes courtesy of Vacation Outlet. A seven-night sailing around the Norwegian fjords aboard Opera is reduced by 50 percent. This spring sailing has dropped in price from $2,200 to $1,099 for interior cabins. On May 25, the ship will hit high seas on a roundtrip circuit from Denmark’s Copenhagen. Once it reaches Norway, it will take in four destinations of this stunning country, including its fjords and the capital of Oslo. One entire day at sea and a visit to Germany’s Kiel are also part of the itinerary.

The dollars
The rates above are listed per person, based on double occupancy. The cost covers onboard accommodations, meals and entertainment, as well as port charges. You’ll just have to dish out extra for government taxes and fees, as well as any shore excursions you may decide to take

The catch
Book soon, as these discounts won’t last!
