Mexican authorities arrested a California priest wanted since 1992 on child molestation charges, according to the Sacramento District Attorney's Office.

Gerardo Beltran had been living and working as a priest in a remote Mexican village. Prosecutors said he was arrested earlier this week.

The district attorney's office said Beltran will be extradited to California, where he faces four counts child molestation involving two girls.

Beltran served in the Catholic Dioceses of Sacramento from 1982 until 1991. He fled when he became the center of a police investigation. Prosecutors said the abuse occurred from 1989 to 1991.
