The deal
There are some legendary travel experiences one absolutely must have at least once in a lifetime, such as crossing the Atlantic on a cruise ship. As with all such unique trips, the price tag can be daunting, so we’ve done some research to bring these voyages within your reach. What we found is a trio of terrific deals, all scheduled for fall departures, with discounts as high as 50 percent and prices as low as $809.

Transatlantic crossing on new Norwegian ship
On November 16 next fall, the new Norwegian Gem hits high seas from Spain’s Barcelona on a 13-night transatlantic voyage that ends in New York. CruisesOnly offers stellar savings on this odyssey, of 47 percent off rack rates. Inside cabins are now selling for $809; oceanview staterooms go for $999. If you take into account that the regular price for inside units is listed at $1,529, then even the balconied cabins are a good deal at $1,349. The itinerary covers seven entire days at sea crossing the Atlantic, plus visits to Villefranche-Sur-Mer in France; Livorno and Civitavecchia in Italy; the French island of Corsica; and Malaga in Spain.

Sail the Atlantic on MSC Cruises’Lirica
Orbitz offers another fantastic ocean crossing for November departures. The deal in question saves you 50 percent off the 18-night transatlantic cruise from Italy’s Genoa to Ft. Lauderdale. A hefty $2,400 is the listed price for this cruise aboard MSC Cruises’ Lirica but the special cuts it down to $1,199 for inside units ($1,499 for oceanview lodging). Ports of call on the European side of the sea include Barcelona; Morocco’s Casablanca; Tenerife in the Canary Islands; and Portugal’s island of Madeira. The ship also calls at Barbados, Antigua, St. Thomas, and Puerto Rico. You’ll sail aboard Lirica, described by CruiseCritic.com as “sleek ... tastefully designed and decorated with Italian flair.”

Cross the big pond  aboard HL’sRotterdam
To cross the pond next November aboard the upscale Holland America’s Rotterdam, book the deal we found on Vacation Outlet. This 15-night New World Adventure journey kicks off on November 4 from Portugal’s capital of Lisbon, en route to Ft. Lauderdale. Along the way, the ship takes in the following destinations: Portimao in Portugal; Cadiz in Spain; Morocco’s Casablanca; Funchal on Madeira; and Lanzarote and Tenerife in the Canary Islands. Eight days at sea are also part of this itinerary. Inside units on this voyage are normally priced at $1,949 but this special reduced the price by 33 percent, to just $1,299! Even oceanview units are affordable, at $1,499.

The dollars
The rates above are listed per person, based on double occupancy. The cost covers onboard accommodations, meals and entertainment, as well as port charges. You’ll just have to dish out extra for government taxes and fees.

The catch
Try not to think of "Titanic" when in the middle of the Atlantic.
