Robbers wearing police uniforms and armed with automatic weapons stormed a post office and stole $1.1 million worth of euros as security guards watched the Euro 2008 soccer final, media reported Tuesday.
Sarajevo police confirmed that the armed gang robbed the post office at 10:30 p.m. Sunday, injuring three guards, one of them seriously.
The getaway van was later found burned in a Sarajevo suburb. Police would not disclose further details.
Local media reported that guards were beaten up by 10 men wearing police uniforms.
Post office security guards were watching the Spain-Germany finals on television when the well-organized group surprised them and stole 700,000 euros, Sarajevo daily newspaper Dnevni Avaz reported Tuesday.
