Marcos Baghdatis, the 2006 Australian Open finalist, was ruled out of the Beijing Olympics on Thursday because of a right wrist injury.
Baghdatis will be out of action for at least four weeks and miss the U.S. Open, the Cyprus Tennis Federation said in a statement on its Web site.
Baghdatis' wrist is in a splint. The injury was discovered before he was to compete in the July 19-27 Rogers Cup in Toronto, forcing him to miss that event and a follow-up tournament in Cincinnati.
He had been considered a medal contender in Cyprus' 18-member team that includes skeet shooting world champion Georgios Achilleos.
