Over Labor Day weekend, local Marriott hotels are sticking with their regular room rates, which are about 25 percent less than other properties in the area. The starting rates at the participating hotels are: $89 for the Marriott at the Convention Center or the Renaissance Arts Hotel; $99 for the Renaissance Pere Marquette or the New Orleans Marriott; and $109 for the JW Marriott New Orleans.
When: Aug. 28-Sept. 1, 2008.

Denali National Park, Alaska, from $120 per room per night
The Holiday Special allows you to stay at a Denali National Park resort for two nights for the price of one and provides a $100 Visa debit card. The lowest rate is at the Denali Bluffs. These hotels are participating at higher rates: McKinley Village Lodge from $291, McKinley Chalet Resort from $313, and Grande Denali Lodge from $325. Rates start at $120 per room per night, or $240 for the required two-night stay. Note that if interested, you can also take advantage of an offer to book two tickets to the Denali Park History Tour for the normal price of one ticket; with the discount, two adult tickets would cost $90.

The rentals will most likely have full kitchens, allowing you to save money by cooking; they're also good for large groups or families traveling together. Some sample rates over Labor Day weekend: Myrtle Beach, S.C. $73 per night; Palm Beach, Fla., $63 per night; and Park City, Utah $72 per night.
Hotels.com is offering a site-wide 30-percent-off sale for Labor Day weekend if you book by Aug. 29, 2008. We found rates of $139 at Chicago's Essex Inn, $166 at Minneapolis's Ramada Mall of America, and $101 at Denver's The Curtis.
AirTran has a site-wide sale; some sample one-way fares include New York City to Richmond from $49, Atlanta to Savannah from $59, and Miami to Atlanta from $89. Act fast—the book-by deadline is Aug. 26.
Is it back-to-school time for your family? Continental is offering reduced fares from its hubs in Newark, Houston, and Cleveland to selected college towns. As of press time, there were one-way fares between Houston and Austin for $49, Cleveland and St. Louis for $69, and Newark and Orlando for $114.
Expedia is having a 50-percent-off sale on hotel rooms when you book four or more nights. Plus, you can get a $75 MasterCard debit card to offset your gas costs. Some hot deals as of press time: Silverton Casino Lodge in Las Vegas from $30 per room per night, Sleep Inn Orlando from $48 per room per night, and Radisson Hotel Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco from $229 per room per night. If you book three nights, you get a $50 debit card, or a $25 card for a two-night stay.
