Usain Bolt has advanced to the semifinals of the Olympic men’s 200 meters, finishing his quarterfinal heat in 20.29 seconds and keeping alive his hopes of the first 100-200 sprint sweep since 1984.
Bolt, the Jamaican who already has run a world record 9.69 to take the gold in the 100, finished Monday night’s 200 quarterfinal heat 0.13 second ahead of defending gold medalist Shawn Crawford of the United States.
The semifinals are Tuesday, with Crawford among the few believed to have a chance at stopping Bolt.
Carl Lewis was the last sprinter to pull off the 100-200 double.
