The deal
San Francisco. Whether you’ve been there or not, mere mention of the name conjures iconic images — near vertical streets, cable cars, rows of delightfully painted Victorian house, the Golden Gate Bridge stretching across the glistening bay. Of course, we recommend a visit — sooner rather than later — to frolic in the Pacific Ocean, wander the myriad neighborhoods and soak up the unique flavor of this world-class city. Even if you leave your heart in San Francisco, this cross section of hotels deals will make sure you keep some money in your pockets. Nightly rates start at $135.

Save 20 percent at Omni San Francisco with AmEx
If you’re an American Express cardholder you can nab a family weekend getaway at the Omni San Francisco from $135.20 a night. Valid only on two-night minimum weekend stays through December 31, 2008, the American Express Family package saves as much as 20 percent off regular deluxe room rates. In addition, milk and cookies will be delivered to your room nightly and children get an Omni Kids bag at check in. The Nob Hill hotel, located right off the cable car line, offers guided walking tours of the city every Saturday at 10 a.m. Note: To seal the deal, accommodations must be pre-paid with your AmEx card.

Two free nights at Hotel Fusion
Heading to San Francisco for business? Why not stick around an extra couple of days to take in some of the sights? With Hotel Fusion’s Stay for Seven Nights, Pay for Five offer, you really have no reason not to. The 124-guestroom non-smoking property is centrally located near Union Square, two blocks from the Powell St. BART station — convenient for downtown meetings, as well as traipsing around the city. Internet access and daily continental breakfast are complimentary. We found nightly rates starting at $159 for a twin room. For more information on the seven-night offer, call the hotel, 415-568-2525.

Hotel Nikko
Now through October 13, you can save 20 percent on a four-night stay and 15 percent on a three-night stay at the Hotel Nikko when booking through Expedia. We priced four nights checking in on September 29 and found discounted rates starting at $175 a night for a petite queen room. The luxurious Union Square neighborhood hotel, just north of Market Street, is within walking distance of theaters, museums, the financial district and Chinatown.
