The deal
Being an election year, there’s plenty of talk of red states and blue states. But when we look at the U.S., we simply see one fabulous travel destination after another. From twinkling Los Angeles and the glitzy desert spectacle that is Las Vegas to vibrant New York and cosmopolitan, Caribbean-flavored Miami, to Chicago, with its dazzling lakefront and architecture, the allure is palpable. It just so happens we found a combination of hotel discounts and flight/lodging packages that add that much more shine to these standout cities. Book as soon as October 10 to catch savings as great at 35 percent.

Two nights in Las Vegas plus air from $213
At 1,149 feet, the tower at the Stratosphere Hotel and Casino is one of the tallest structures west of the Mississippi. Just as impressive are the discounts you’ll enjoy when you book a Las Vegas vacation through Expedia. Through the site’s Book Early and Save promo you’ll receive a 35 percent reduction off your stay at the Stratosphere, set on the north end of the Strip, when you make reservations 30 days in advance of your desired travel date. A flight, plus accommodations for two nights, runs from $213 from January 1-31, 2009. The fare is based on a Los Angeles departure and reservations must be made 30 days in advance of desired dates of travel.

Book early and save at the Mondrian
Desire a glamorous Los Angeles getaway? The Mondrian may fit the bill. The luxury boutique hotel on the Sunset Strip is offering 15 percent off the best available rate when you book and pay 14 days in advance. A two-night stay is required. Rooms at the West Hollywood property, boasting fanciful accents and expansive views, start at $378. Guests need not go far for a social scene: the open-air Skybar and hip Asia de Cuba are housed in the hotel. Be sure your stay is splurge-worthy though. Reservations booked under this offer are non-refundable and cannot be changed or canceled.

35 percent off Miami hotel plus airfare
If you’re looking for a South Beach getaway, check out this deal from Expedia. You can nab a four-night stay at the Hotel Nash plus a flight from $631. As part of the site’s Book Early and Save promo, you’ll receive a 35 percent on your accommodations at the four-star property by making reservations at least 30 days ahead of your travel dates. Set on Collins Avenue, the Hotel Nash is within two blocks of the beach in the Art Deco district, and just a mile from the Lincoln Road Mall. The sample quote is based on midweek travel from New York between November 1 and November 30. Note: Only two guests are allowed per room.

New York hotel starting at $99/night
Yes — the headline is correct. The Jane Hotel has rooms from $99/night through at least January 30, 2009. This quirky Greenwich Village property, originally a hotel for sailors dating back to 1908, features cozy rooms — and by cozy we mean about 50 square feet for a Standard Cabin with a twin bed. Captain’s Cabins, at 150-250 square feet, have queen or king beds. All rooms sport free wireless Internet, flat screen TVs, DVD players and iPod docks. If you’re traveling solo, and don’t mind tiny spaces or shared bathrooms, this is a hard-to-beat deal.

The dollars
Rates are based on double occupancy, with the exception of The Jane in New York. In the case of the Stratosphere and Hotel Nash flight/lodging packages, prices quoted are per person.

The catch
Between the myriad restaurants, shopping, sightseeing and nightlife choices, it will be hard to stick to a budget.
