Hurricane Marie has formed far off Mexico's Pacific coast, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said Friday.

Marie, which started as a tropical storm on Wednesday, was centered 875 miles west-southwest of the southern tip of Baja California on Friday afternoon, and was not expected to threaten land.

The storm had winds clocked at 75 mph Friday afternoon, and was heading slowly westward.
