Eight people were killed Friday after a car bomb struck a market in a Shiite enclave in southwestern Baghdad, police said.

Police said 22 people were wounded in the blast.

Two police officers said a car parked in the main market area of Abu Dshir exploded at 4:30 p.m. Abu Dshir is a Shiite enclave in the majority Sunni neighborhood of Dora.

The police officers spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to media.

Dora is a former insurgent stronghold but security has significant improved there over the last year.
