You can be one of the first to check out The Citizen Hotel when the 198-room boutique hotel opens this winter. Just two blocks from the state capitol, the Citizen has been restored to its vintage 1920s glory, complete with custom-designed furniture, doorknobs shaped like hands, and political cartoons by the city's own Newton Pratt. Introductory rates start at $149 per room per night (the price will go up in 2009).
