Hawaii, a state dependent on tourism, has been hit hard by the economic crisis. The Hawaii Department of Business, Economic Development & Tourism estimates that the number of tourists has dropped by half a million this year. That means empty hotel rooms that need filling — and some great deals for you. Here are three we found.

Honolulu, Oahu, from $470 per person
One of American Airlines Vacations' Hawaii deals features airfare, continental breakfast daily, and four nights at the Coconut Waikiki Hotel. The hotel has a pool and 80 rooms that were recently refurbished in stylish blues and greens. It's three blocks from Waikiki Beach.

Gateways: L.A.; add $195 for New York City; $328 for Chicago; $329 for Dallas; additional gateways available. Note that the land-only price is $262 per person if you'd like to arrange your own airfare.

When: Travel by Dec. 15, 2008.

The fine print: Hotel taxes and fees are included. Does not include airfare taxes of about $60 per person. Based on double occupancy; single supplement is $260. Based on travel Monday through Thursday; weekend rates will be slightly higher.

Lahaina, Maui, from $599 per person
The Lahaina Shores Beach Resort package includes airfare on United or American (or other major airlines) and three nights' accommodations in a condo with a full kitchen. All 199 rooms at this condo resort have mountain or ocean views; plus, it's right on the beach. The price reflects 50 percent off your companion's airfare and an included protection plan (a $79 value), which guarantees the reservation price and waives the fee for a one-time reservation change.

Gateways: L.A., San Francisco; additional gateways available, but the 50 percent off companion airfare offer doesn't apply.

When: Through Dec. 8, 2008.

The fine print Hotel taxes are included. Does not include airfare taxes of about $59 per person. Based on double occupancy; single supplement is $400. Based on travel Monday through Thursday; weekend rates will be higher.
