Congratulations to Aaron Moroson of Ladera Ranch, Calif., who captured this week’s top-rated image in the It’s A Snap travel photo contest. His image shows the mountains of Patagonia, Argentina. Moroson was on a ski trip in San Carlos de Bariloche in the Patagonia Lake District last September when he snapped the scenery in his friend’s goggles. “The picture doesn’t even do it 10 percent justice,” he said of the view.

Moroson and two friends were surveying the huge amounts of snow at Cerro Caterdral Ski Resort when he thought, “This would look amazing off of the goggles!”

He told his friends to stay still, then with an old, beat-up camera that had been duct taped together, he snapped a few photos and this one turned out. “It was an epic trip!” Moroson said of his adventures skiing and exploring the backcountry of Patagonia.

Patagonia, located in the southern end of South America, is a region about 300,000 square miles that spans southern Argentina and southern Chile, between the Andes in the west and the Atlantic on the east.

Skiing is one of the main activities in the Patagonian Andes, where visitors can enjoy the slopes from mid June to late September.
