More than a day of rain has led to major flooding along two eastern Iowa rivers.

The National Weather Service forecasts major flooding along the Iowa River in Wapello, Lone Tree and Columbus Junction, as well as at the English River near Kalona.

Major and moderate flooding has also forced the closure of several state highways and county roads, including state Highway 30 in Scott County west of Plainview and state Highway 92 west of Oskaloosa.

The weather service says widespread rain of between 1.5 inches and 2.5 inches have fallen since early Saturday morning on saturated or frozen ground. Moderate to heavy rain will drench parts of eastern Iowa before the system pushes through the state late Sunday afternoon.
