Members of President Barack Obama's autos task force are getting a look at Chrysler's car of the future after test-driving General Motors' rechargeable electric car, the Volt.

Task force members, led by Wall Street financier Steven Rattner and Steelworkers union official Ron Bloom, arrived at Chrysler's Dodge Ram pickup truck plant in Warren, Michigan.

GM and Chrysler are living on $17.4 billion in government loans and have asked for a total of $39 billion. The task force will decide whether the automakers should get additional aid.

Rattner and Bloom spent much of the day at GM's tech center. Television news footage showed them driving silver and white Chevrolet Volts. Chrysler was expected to show off an electric vehicle, among other new products.
