While visiting the Desert Botanical Gardens in Phoenix, Arizona, I caught a glimpse of what looked like fire rising from the earth. Glass artist Dale Chihuly's installation was at the garden and demonstrated a perfect combination of art imitating life...or is it life imitating art?

This photo was taken at The Boulders which is part of Table Mountain National Park in Cape Town, South Africa. We visited the beach on our way to the Cape of Good Hope. It was incredible to see so many penguins in the wild. We spent a total of six days in South Africa on the spring 2008 voyage of Semester at Sea. Semester at sea is a semester long study abroad program for college students that visited 12 countries during a circumnavigation of the world by sea.
