Travel to Iceland has never been more affordable. Here's a quick getaway to celebrate the arrival of spring — and stimulate the country's ailing economy.

The real deal: Round-trip airfare to Keflavík on an Icelandair carrier, two nights' accommodations in Reykjavík, Scandinavian buffet breakfast daily, fuel surcharges and booking fees, from $439 per person — plus estimated taxes of $100.

When: For Hotel Cabin: through May 15; add $70 for May 16–June 15. For Park Inn Island: through April 30; add $60 for May 1–31; $100 for June 1–15.

The fine print: A $60 discount is reflected in the starting rate of $439. Valid for travel any day of the week. Taxes are estimated at an additional $100 per person. Round-trip transfers between Keflavík airport and the hotel are $40 per person. Based on double occupancy; single supplement is $40 to $60, depending on the hotel. Why it's a deal: According to a recent search on Kayak, the lowest round-trip fares between Keflavík and New York City start at $464, including taxes, for departures in early May (Icelandair). For an additional $75, Icelandair's Iceland In Bloom package covers international airfare as well as two nights' accommodations, breakfast daily, fuel surcharges, booking fees and all taxes.

Lodging: Two nights at either the 152-room Hotel Cabin in Borgartún, Reykjavík, with views of the bay, or the 119-room Park Inn Island in central Reykjavík.

More: Additional nights start at $55 per person for a double and $85 for a single room at Hotel Cabin; $55 for a double and $75 for a single room at Park Inn Island. If you'd prefer a package with more perks, consider the Icelandair Stimulus. It starts at $679 per person, based on double occupancy (single supplement is $80), for airfare and two nights at either the Fosshotel Lind or the Fosshotel Baron.
