The deal
Sailing away to an island in the sun is always a worthwhile getaway, but not having to share your tropical paradise with flocks of other tourists is truly rare.

Cruise West just announced new itineraries to Costa Rica’s Cocos Island, and in order to do so they had to receive permission from the island’s only inhabitants — a handful of Costa Rican Park Rangers. Not only will cruise passengers have the entire island to themselves, those who book ahead can also enjoy some remarkable savings of up to $1,200 per cabin.

Located between mainland Costa Roca and the Galapagos Islands, Cocos Island is said to be the largest uninhabited island in the world, and is home to over 60 species of animals that are endemic to the island — several of which are on the endangered species list.

It was declared a UNESCO world heritage site in 2007, and was short-listed as a candidate to be one of the New7Wonders of Nature.

This exotic itinerary includes three full days to explore the island, as well as a chance to tour the caverns, go bird watching, kayaking, and snorkeling. The 100-passenger Pacific Explorer sets sail for six nights on January 12, and April 12, 2010 from San Jose, with cabin prices starting from $2,799.

The dollars
Prices are quoted are per person, based on double-occupancy and covers taxes, port charges, fees and other onboard services. Onboard gratuities are neither required nor expected.

The catch
In order to receive the entire Early-Booking Savings of $600 per person ($1,200 per cabin), you must pay in full by May 22. Those who make a deposit by May 22 will only receive $300 off per person.
