A woman is under house arrest for falsely reporting that a man she was stalking was going to hijack a plane in Los Angeles — a lie authorities say nearly prevented him from attending his own wedding.

Twenty-four-year-old Susan Kriss was sentenced Monday in federal court to six months of house arrest, three years of probation and psychological counseling.

Kriss called police at Los Angeles International Airport in August 2007 to report that Essam Beshara intended to hijack a flight to Egypt.

Beshara and his family were barred from the flight and had to spend about $14,000 on last-minute tickets for another flight to get to his wedding on time.

Kriss' attorney, John Passanante, says his client had mental health issues since childhood and "made it her hobby to bother" Beshara.
